現在形＝present simple
現在の状態や習慣的動作、過去においても未来においても変わらない事実を表す。
副詞の位置に注意。S + be動詞 + 副詞 + 形容詞 か S + 副詞 + 動詞 となる。
always(いつも) > normally/usually(たいてい) > sometimes(時々) > occasionally(時折) という順番。ちなみにquite a few(極めて頻繁に)も頻度としても使える。多分alwaysの後くらいだろうな。。
一語の副詞は文の間に挟めるけど、2語以上になると語尾にくる。
①happen regularly (and routine)
– I play tennis every Tuesday.
②generally true and permanent at the present time
– I live in Tokyo.
③fact or always true
– The sun rises in the west.
上記の時は必ずpresent simple!!
現在進行形＝present continious
現在進行中の動作を表す。現在起きている変化や現在の反復されている動作も表す。
さらに、前もって考えて、具体的に計画された未来の予定についても現在進行形を使う。前もって考えているけど、具体的ではないことはbe going to ~で表す。具体的かどうかで使い分ける。
現在起きている変化だと悪い状態から良い状態へ変化している時：I’m getting better ~ なんてよく聞く。風邪ひいている友達と話してると結構使う。
反復されている動作：I’m knocking on the door. はノックを繰り返しているのがわかる。
1 : I live in Tokyo. (永住に近いイメージ)
2 : I’m living in Tokyo. (一時的に住んでいるイメージ)
ほとんど2で話すことないけど使えないことはない。
I’m coming (差し迫った未来：向かっているイメージ)
I’m arriving tomorrow (確定的な未来の予定)
こっちで使ったテキストには・・
①something happening now
– It’s raining.
②a temporary situation which is true now
– I’m cooking in the kitchen.
③something happening in the present but not necessarily at the moment
– I’m studying history.
と書いてあるけど、③は意外と知らなかった笑

過去形＝past simple
過去の動作や習慣を表す。
過去に習慣としてやっていたけど、今はやっていないことに関してはused to ~を使う。「かつて~していたけど、今はもう~していない」という感じになる。ちなみにbe/get used to ~は「~に慣れている」なので注意。be動詞があるかないかで意味が変わってくる。used to ~の疑問形はDid you use to ~ ?
①past action/event/states which have finished
I felt tired after I finished exams.
②repeated past actions
I went to school when I was a student.
③a sequence of past actions
とテキストに書いてあったけど、基本的には現在形を過去形にすればいいと思う。
過去進行形＝past continous
現在進行形の過去版として考えればOK!
①a particular moment in the past
I was studying my homework.
②temporary actions which give extra (less important) information
I went to the cinema because it was raining.
③two or more actions happening at the same time
I was studying my homework while my mother was cooking.
④an action happening when another action happened
I was cooking when my phone rang.
